TOUR DU MONT BLANC - 2007In the spring of 2007, my wife Wanda decides to join me on one of my mountaineering expeditions. She is a very experienced hiker with a three-week long hike in Bhutan in 2006 to her credit. However, climbing is out of the question. After several days of exploring various options, we finally decide to try one of the most challenging hiking trips - a ground tour around the Massif of Mont Blanc. We depart on May 31 from Toronto flying via Amsterdam and Geneva to the Mecca of modern alpinism - Chamonix. The guide from my Logan 2001 expedition, Freddy Grossniklaus, agrees to be our leader for the hike. Our route starts in Chamonix. We hike eleven days and cover about 160 km and three countries: France, Switzerland and Italy. Freddy decides to walk in a clockwise direction, which according to him is easier. We stay in small hotels and mountain refuges. Every day we follow that sign. Because we are two weeks ahead of the tourist season, we are the only people in the mountains.
