Return Home

On
June 1st , Jordan and I leave Base Camp. We are both very
tired and the trip to Gorak Shep takes more than five hours. Next day we
continue to Pheriche. For the first two stages, a porter carries our
backpacks.

In the valleys, the Spring is in full swing and wild flowers grow
everywhere.

It is
a season to gather firewood for the next winter as well as to buy new pots and
pans and replace a broken stove.

We stop in Tengboche to admire the intricate architecture of the local
monastery.

In
Namche Bazzar, we have a chance to visit the weekly market. Local vendors
like to watch themselves in Jordan’s camcorder. Others are too busy
negotiating deals to pay much attention to us.

We
cross one last time, the gate to the Sagarmatha National Park. We stop
frequently to admire the beautiful streams full of rushing white water.

From
Lukla we fly back to Kathmandu with Gorkha Airlines. Finally after 75
days on the road I get a chance to have a hot shower at the Summit
Hotel. Unfortunately, this is not the end of our trip. A sudden storm in
New Delhi causes a 24-hour delay in Air Canada flight to Toronto. We
finally arrive home on June 7th, 2005.
